This workshop offers a guided introduction to the art of wheel throwing. You will get acquainted with the clay and learn fundamental techniques.

About this activity:

During the workshop you will be able to try several techniques: wedging, centering, opening, and pulling the walls. With close individual guidance you will create 1–3 pieces and enjoy the satisfying experience of forming them on the wheel. At the end of the workshop we will finish your pieces - trimming, bisque firing, glazing, and high temperature firing, making it ready for you to use and treasure.

About the project

MATÉRIA PRIMA Atelier de Cerâmica is a wheel throwing and handbuilding studio founded in 2025 by ceramic artist Rinat Burg. The studio is located in the parish of São Vicente Ferreira, on the north coast of São Miguel island. Rinat holds a BFA and a diploma in contemporary ceramics and is a certified member of CADA - Centro de Artesanato e Design dos Açores.

Terms and Conditions

The price (PVP) includes: entrance fees to the venues, all materials necessary for the activity, guidance from the craftsperson/training entity, personal accident insurance, and VAT at the legal rate in force.In case of cancellation by the Organization, the amount paid will be fully refunded. In case of no-show or withdrawal/cancellation by the participant, the amount paid will not be refunded.
